Remove Shopify Vendor from Google Merchant Center

If you have your Shopify e-commerce store connected to the Google Merchant Center you might notice that your Shopify Vendor name may showing up as a prefix in their product titles in Google Shopping results.

This is an issue if you are using any PrintOnDemand services such as Printful, Printify, TeeLaunch, etc. since those services are tagged as the vendor on the Shopify application. This results in revealing your Vendor source in the title of your Google Shop listing.

But have no worries! There is a fix!

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you remove the vendor name from your Google Merchant Center listings using Feed Rules.

Step 1: Confirm the Issue

First, verify whether Google is receiving your product titles with the vendor name included. To do this, go to your Google Merchant Center account, navigate to ‘Products’, then ‘All products’. Click on one of your products and scroll to the bottom to view the ‘final attributes’. If the vendor name (referred to brand on Google Merchant) appears in the title here, this is how your data feed app is sending the title to Google.

Step 2: Feed Rules to the Rescue

If your vendor name is indeed appearing in your product titles, Google Merchant Center’s Feed Rules can help. Feed Rules allow you to modify your product data in Google Merchant Center directly, instead of altering the information in your data feed app or Shopify store. Here’s how to apply a Feed Rule:

  1. Visit Google Merchant Center’s Feed Rules page here.
  2. Depending on your specific need, choose either the ‘clear attribute’ or ‘search and replace’ function to remove the vendor name from your product titles.

Step 3: Apply a Feed Rule to Clear the Brand

This process should help you eliminate the unexpected appearance of vendor names in your product titles on Google Shopping. It’s important to remember, however, that Google’s automation tools can sometimes add the brand name if it’s missing from the title, or choose a high-performing title from a grouped selection. It’s advisable to review your product titles regularly to ensure they are appearing as intended.

By taking control of how your products are displayed on Google Shopping, you’re taking a big step towards making your products stand out in a sea of e-commerce listings. Happy selling!
